Motorcycles are not cars. That sounds obvious, but too many tow operators treat a bike like a small car, and the result is scratched fairings, bent handlebars, cracked mirrors, or worse.
A car sits stable on four contact points. A motorcycle has two, and it wants to fall over. Proper motorcycle towing requires a wheel chock to lock the front wheel and prevent lateral movement, plus multiple tie-down points to keep the bike vertical during turns, braking, and highway speeds.
Metal hooks and chains scratch paint, crack plastic fairings, and dent chrome. Every motorcycle tow from RJ Towing uses soft-loop ratchet straps that wrap around the handlebars, frame, and rear subframe without metal-to-surface contact. This is non-negotiable for us.
Some tow operators try to drag a motorcycle onto a truck using a winch cable. This bends footpegs, scratches exhaust pipes, and can damage the frame. We roll bikes onto the flatbed using a hydraulic ramp or, when necessary, carefully lift them with two operators.
Chain-drive, belt-drive, and shaft-drive motorcycles each have different loading considerations. A chain-drive bike in neutral rolls freely. A shaft-drive bike may resist rolling in gear. Our drivers know these differences.
A Harley-Davidson Road Glide weighs over 900 lbs. A Honda Grom weighs 230 lbs. Tie-down tension, strap placement, and chock sizing are completely different. Our drivers adjust for the specific bike, not a one-size-fits-all setup.

BMW R1250GS, Honda Africa Twin, KTM 1290 Super Adventure, Yamaha Tenere 700. Often break down in remote locations, east of Julian, Anza-Borrego desert roads, Sunrise Highway past Pine Valley. Cell service can be spotty; if you can get a call through, we dispatch.
Honda CB650R, Yamaha MT-07, Kawasaki Z650, Triumph Street Triple. Exposed frames make strap routing straightforward, but still need soft straps to prevent scratching the tank and frame finish.

Take photos of all sides, existing scratches, and accessories. Our driver also photographs, this protects everyone if anything is questioned later.
If the key is accessible, leave it with the bike. We may need to unlock the steering to position the front wheel into the chock. If keys are lost or the bike is non-running, our driver works around it.
Do not try to lift it yourself, especially a heavy cruiser or adventure bike. Improper lifting is how backs get injured and bikes get dropped again. Our driver knows the proper technique (bracing the low side, leveraging the frame) to right a downed motorcycle safely.
We take every precaution during transport, but we recommend removing valuables and sensitive items from saddlebags before loading. Cameras, GPS units, electronics, riding gear, take them with you.
No. We use soft-loop straps with polyester fabric ends, no metal hooks or clips contact your motorcycle's surfaces. Foam padding is placed at every potential contact point. We have towed show bikes and custom paint jobs without a mark.
Yes. If the bike is on its side, our drivers carefully right it using proper technique, bracing the low side and leveraging the frame, not yanking it by the handlebars. Damaged bikes that cannot roll are manually positioned onto the flatbed. We photograph condition before and after loading.
Yes. We regularly pick up from Sunrise Highway, Anza-Borrego, Palomar Mountain, and other rides east and north of the city. If you can reach us by phone, we dispatch. Remote mountain pickups may take 40-60 minutes depending on distance.

If the transmission is locked, the chain is seized, or crash damage prevents the wheels from turning, we have two options: use a motorcycle dolly to roll the bike onto the flatbed, or manually lift with two operators. Either way, your bike gets loaded without being dragged.
