Poway sits in the inland valley north of Scripps Ranch and east of Rancho Bernardo, connected to I-15 primarily via Scripps Poway Parkway and to SR-67 via Poway Road. It is officially "The City in the Country," a master-planned community with a semi-rural character, horse properties in the eastern hills, and a business park along Community Road and Kirkham Way. The 92064 zip code covers the full Poway city limits, with a population around 50,000.
Poway is distinctive geographically. The city is in a valley ringed by hills, and getting in or out requires either freeway access via Scripps Poway Parkway to I-15, or state highway access via Poway Road to SR-67 heading toward Ramona. The hills themselves, especially in the Espola Road area and the eastern communities leading toward Lake Poway, have sustained grades that stress vehicles. Summer temperatures inland can exceed coastal temperatures by 10-15 degrees, compounding overheating risk.
Poway also has commercial concentration. The Community Road / Kirkham Way business park is home to hundreds of small to medium businesses, manufacturers, and distribution centers. Commercial vehicle breakdowns are a regular call.
