RJ Towing operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including every holiday. A live, bilingual dispatcher answers every call. We don't use automated phone trees or answering services. When you call (619) 872-5285at 3 AM on Thanksgiving, a real person picks up and dispatches a truck. That's been our standard for over 15 years.
We cover all of San Diego County, from Oceanside and Carlsbad in the north to the Tijuana border in the south, from the beaches to Alpine and Lakeside in East County. We also offer cross-border towing to and from Tijuana and Rosarito through our dedicated Mexican operations line at (664) 801-9382. Our fastest response times are in Central San Diego (10-15 min), South Bay (12-18 min), and the I-5/I-8/I-15 corridors. View our full coverage map.
Yes. RJ Towing is fully bilingual, English and Spanish. Every dispatcher and every driver speaks both languages fluently. This isn't a translation line or a third-party service. The family that owns and operates RJ Towing is bilingual, and so is every team member.
Whether you call our San Diego line at (619) 872-5285 or our Tijuana line at (664) 801-9382, you can speak in whichever language is more comfortable. Hablamos español con fluidez, es parte de lo que somos.
RJ Towing operates a fleet of 5+ trucks, including flatbed (rollback) trucks, wheel-lift tow trucks, and medium-duty wreckers. Our trucks are staged across San Diego County so we can reach most locations within 15-30 minutes. Each truck is GPS-tracked, fully insured, and equipped for the services it handles, jump packs, lockout tools, tire equipment, straps, and recovery gear. See the full fleet.
Response time depends on your location and current fleet positioning. Typical ETAs across San Diego County:
- Central San Diego (Downtown, Hillcrest, North Park, Mission Valley): 10-20 minutes
- South Bay (Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach): 12-20 minutes
- Coastal (Pacific Beach, La Jolla, Point Loma, Coronado): 15-25 minutes
- East County (El Cajon, La Mesa, Santee, Spring Valley): 18-30 minutes
- North County (Escondido, Poway, Rancho Bernardo): 20-35 minutes
- Cross-border (San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, Tijuana): 20-45 minutes
When you call (619) 872-5285, the dispatcher gives you a specific ETA based on the closest available truck.
A real person, never a recording, never an answering service. Our dispatchers are part of the RJ Towing team. They know our trucks, our drivers, our coverage area, and our pricing. They can give you an exact price quote and ETA on the first call. If you need to speak Spanish, the person answering already does. Call (619) 872-5285 any time.
Our dispatch office and primary yard are located at 2881 G St, San Diego, CA 92102, in the Barrio Logan / Golden Hill area of central San Diego. This central location gives us fast access to downtown, South Bay, Mission Valley, and the I-5 / I-15 / I-8 interchange corridors. Our trucks are staged at various points across the county throughout the day, not all parked at one yard.
Over 15 years. RJ Towing was established in San Diego around 2010 and has been family-owned and operated since day one. Robert, the owner, still oversees daily operations and personally handles complex jobs. Fifteen years of continuous operation in a competitive market like San Diego speaks to the quality and reliability of the service.
RJ Towing is owned and operated by Robert and his family. It's not a franchise, not a national chain, not an investor-owned fleet. When you call (619) 872-5285, the people dispatching your truck have a personal stake in your experience. Family ownership means the person who answers the phone at 2 AM is the same person who built the company. That's why our Google rating is 5.0 stars.
Three things that no other San Diego towing company combines:
- Fully bilingual from ownership down. Not a translation line, every person on our team speaks English and Spanish fluently. This matters when you're stressed, confused, or dealing with insurance paperwork.
- Cross-border service. RJ Towing is the only San Diego-based towing company that offers true binational service between San Diego and Tijuana, with a dedicated TJ phone line at (664) 801-9382.
- Family accountability.Robert's name is on every truck. He answers to his customers personally. Fifteen years of 5.0-star reviews don't happen by accident.
Beyond those differentiators, we do everything a professional towing company should: 24/7 dispatch, 15-30 minute response, transparent pricing, multiple truck types, licensed and insured operators, no hidden fees.

Pricing Questions
How much a tow costs in San Diego, and how we quote before we roll.
8 questions in Pricing Questions
A standard tow in San Diego typically costs between $95 and $200 within city limits, depending on distance. RJ Towing's base hook-up fee starts in the low-mid-tier range, plus a per-mile charge. A 5-mile tow from downtown to Mission Valley typically runs around $115-$130. Call (619) 872-5285 for your exact price, we quote on the phone before dispatching. See our full pricing page.
Flatbed towing adds a modest premium to the standard rate. A typical flatbed tow within San Diego runs $140-$250 depending on distance. Flatbed is recommended or required for AWD vehicles, Teslas and other EVs, low-clearance sports cars, classics, and motorcycles. If you're not sure whether you need a flatbed, tell us your vehicle's make, model, and year when you call, we'll match you with the right truck.
We accept cash, all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), and debit cards. For accident tows, we can coordinate insurance billing in many cases. Businesses with regular towing needs can set up a fleet account with monthly invoicing. Payment is always collected after the job is completed, we never require prepayment to dispatch. Call (619) 872-5285 with payment questions.
For accident/collision tows, many insurance policies cover towing under collision or comprehensive coverage. We provide a detailed receipt and all documentation your insurer needs for reimbursement. If your insurance company has a preferred tow provider list, we can often coordinate regardless. Call (619) 872-5285and mention your insurance company, we'll tell you if we can bill them directly or help you file.
No. The price we quote on the phone is the price you pay. We do not add fuel surcharges, dispatch fees, loading fees, “administrative” charges, or any other line items that weren't part of your quote. If we arrive and the situation is different than described (your “sedan” turns out to be a box truck, or the vehicle is in a ditch rather than on flat ground), we'll re-quote the adjusted price and get your approval before starting work. You always have the right to decline. Read our full no-hidden-fees guarantee.
Tipping tow truck drivers is not required, and most customers don't. That said, our drivers appreciate it when customers acknowledge good service, especially on difficult calls (rain, late night, complex recovery). If a driver goes above and beyond, a $10-$20 tip is generous and appreciated. If you'd rather not tip in cash, a positive Google review means a lot to a family-owned company like ours.
We don't run formal price-matching promotions because our pricing is already competitive and transparent. If you've received a quote from another licensed, insured towing company in San Diego for the same service, call us at (619) 872-5285and share the details. We'll do our best to be fair. What we won't do is match lowball quotes from unlicensed operators who inflate the price after hooking your vehicle.
Some San Diego towing companies add 10-20% for calls between 10 PM and 6 AM or on major holidays. RJ Towing dispatches 24/7/365 with a live person answering every call. Ask about after-hours pricing when you call (619) 872-5285, we always disclose the total before sending a truck.

Service Questions
What we actually do, truck types, specialty services, and how each one works.
8 questions in Service Questions
Wheel-lift towinglifts two wheels off the ground (usually the front) while the other two roll on the road surface. It's the standard, most affordable tow method and works well for most sedans, trucks, and SUVs with functioning rear wheels.
Flatbed towing(also called rollback) loads your entire vehicle onto a flat platform with zero wheels touching the road. It's required for AWD/4WD vehicles (the drivetrain can be damaged if towed with wheels on the ground), Teslas and electric vehicles, low-clearance sports cars, classic/collector vehicles, and any vehicle with transmission or axle damage.
RJ Towing carries both truck types. When you call (619) 872-5285, describe your vehicle and we'll send the right one. If your vehicle needs a flatbed but you request wheel-lift, we'll explain why and never tow unsafely to save money. Flatbed details · wheel-lift details.
Yes. We transport motorcycles on flatbed trucks using soft straps, wheel chocks, and foam pads, never with chains or hard hooks that can scratch chrome or damage fairings. We handle Harley-Davidsons, sport bikes, adventure bikes, scooters, and trikes. Mention that it's a motorcycle when you call so we dispatch a flatbed with the right tie-down equipment. Motorcycle towing details.
Yes. Our medium-duty equipment handles vehicles up to 26,000 lbs GVWR, including box trucks, shuttle vans, RVs, work trucks, and delivery vehicles. For vehicles over 26,000 lbs (semi-trucks, heavy construction equipment), we can refer you to a heavy-duty partner. Call (619) 872-5285 with the vehicle type and weight class. Medium-duty towing details.
You call (619) 872-5285, give us your location and vehicle make/model, and we dispatch a technician with professional lockout tools. The technician uses air wedges and long-reach tools (not coat hangers or screwdrivers) to unlock your vehicle without damage. Most unlocks take 2-5 minutes once on-site. The entire process, from your call to driving away, typically takes under 30 minutes. Full lockout page.
Our jumpstart service includes a professional surge-protected jump start, a basic battery health assessment, and a terminal cleaning if corrosion is contributing to the problem. If the battery jumps successfully, you're on your way. If the battery is too degraded to hold a charge, we'll let you know and can tow you to a parts store or mechanic for replacement. We carry equipment for standard 12V batteries, hybrid auxiliary batteries (Prius, Camry Hybrid, etc.), and EV 12V systems (Tesla, Bolt, Leaf). Details.
We deliver 2-5 gallons of gasoline or diesel, enough to get you to the nearest gas station safely. Fuel is purchased at current pump price with no markup, plus a service fee. We don't carry premium or E85, call and ask if you need a specialty fuel type. Fuel delivery details.
Yes. Our winch-out/recovery service uses heavy-duty winch equipment rated for 20,000+ lbs to extract vehicles from mud, sand, ditches, embankments, and off-road situations. Common locations in San Diego: Silver Strand beach, Fiesta Island, Otay Mountain trails, Mount Laguna after rain. Each recovery is assessed on-site because no two are identical. Winch-out details.
Yes. We transport vehicles anywhere in California and to neighboring states (Arizona, Nevada) as well as cross-border to Baja California. Common long-distance routes: San Diego to Los Angeles, San Diego to Palm Springs, San Diego to Phoenix, San Diego to Tijuana/Rosarito/Ensenada. Long-distance towing is typically scheduled in advance. Call (619) 872-5285 for a flat-rate quote on your route. Details.

We regularly serve Oceanside and Camp Pendleton, the northernmost points of San Diego County. Response time to North County is typically 25-40 minutes. For locations beyond SD County (Temecula, San Clemente, etc.), call (619) 872-5285and we'll either dispatch or quote a long-distance rate.
Yes, and this is a service no other San Diego towing company offers at our level. We operate cross-border towing between San Diego and Tijuana, Rosarito, and the Baja corridor. Call our dedicated Tijuana line at (664) 801-9382 for cross-border service. Our team coordinates with Mexican authorities when needed, handles bilingual documentation, and knows the border-crossing logistics that trip up companies without binational experience. Learn more about cross-border towing.
All San Diego County freeways and highways: I-5 (the full north-south corridor from Oceanside to the border), I-8 (east-west from Ocean Beach to Alpine and beyond), I-15 (north-south from downtown through Mira Mesa, Rancho Bernardo, Escondido), I-805 (South Bay through Sorrento Valley), SR-54, SR-56, SR-67, SR-78, SR-94, SR-125, SR-163, and SR-905. We've driven every mile of every freeway in this county thousands of times.
It depends on where the closest available truck is when you call. We stage our fleet across the county to minimize response time. On an average day: 10-15 minutes if a truck is already in your area, 15-25 minutes for most of San Diego proper, 25-35 minutes for outlying areas. Freeway breakdowns are often faster because we're already driving the freeway corridors. Call (619) 872-5285 for a real-time ETA.
Cross-border towing between San Diego and Tijuana involves coordination that most towing companies can't handle: border-crossing documentation, Mexican insurance verification, communication with Mexican transit authorities, and navigation of Tijuana streets. RJ Towing's team is binational, we operate on both sides of the border. The process: you call (664) 801-9382 or (619) 872-5285, we assess the situation, coordinate the crossing logistics, and transport your vehicle safely. Transit time through the border varies (30 minutes to 2+ hours depending on wait times). Full cross-border page.
