Otay Mesa sits along the US-Mexico border in the southernmost section of San Diego, defined by two critical functions: the Otay Mesa Port of Entry, the busiest commercial truck crossing on the western US-Mexico border, and the sprawling industrial and warehouse districts that serve binational manufacturing, distribution, and logistics.
The neighborhood is bounded roughly by SR-905 to the north, the US-Mexico border to the south, the Otay Valley Regional Park and Otay Lakes to the east, and the Imperial Beach / San Ysidro boundary to the west. The 92154 zip code covers the full area. Population is lower than residential neighborhoods, around 15,000 residents, but daytime population swells enormously with cross-border workers, warehouse employees, truck drivers, and customs personnel.
Otay Mesa's defining roads are SR-905, the east-west freeway connecting I-5 and I-805 to the border crossing, Otay Mesa Road, the primary east-west arterial through the industrial district, and Siempre Viva Road, the corridor serving the southernmost warehouses near the border. Brown Field is the municipal airport in the northern section of Otay Mesa, serving general aviation and occasional commercial operations.
Our yard on G Street is about 15 miles north of the Otay Mesa Port of Entry. We reach it via I-5 South to SR-905 East, or via I-805 South to SR-905 East. Response time averages 20-30 minutes depending on exact location. For breakdowns right at the border, we often coordinate with Customs and Border Protection for access.
The cross-border character of Otay Mesa is central to the work. Many vehicles that break down here are commercial trucks carrying freight to or from Mexico. Others are passenger vehicles returning from Tijuana. RJ Towing is the only San Diego tow company with a dedicated Tijuana phone line and genuine cross-border capability. See our Tijuana towing page for binational service details.
