University City (UC) occupies the mesa between La Jolla and Clairemont, bounded roughly by I-5 to the west, I-805 to the east, SR-52 to the south, and La Jolla Village Drive to the north. The 92122 zip code is dominated by two massive institutions: the University of California San Diego (UCSD) campus to the north, with over 40,000 students, faculty, and staff, and the Westfield UTC shopping center at Genesee Avenue and La Jolla Village Drive, one of the highest-traffic retail destinations in San Diego County.
University City has a bifurcated character. The UCSD campus is a city unto itself, 1,200+ acres of academic buildings, residence halls, medical facilities, research labs, and parking structures. The UTC area is dense commercial retail surrounded by high-rise apartments and condominiums. The residential blocks between, along Nobel Drive, Regents Road, Lebon Drive, and Governor Drive, are primarily apartment complexes housing students, UCSD staff, and tech workers commuting to Sorrento Valley and La Jolla biotech.
Our yard on G Street is about 13 miles south of central University City. We reach it via I-5 North to the La Jolla Village Drive exit or I-805 North to the Nobel Drive exit. Average response 18-25 minutes.
What makes University City distinctive for towing is density and grade. The Genesee Avenue climb from Mission Valley up to UTC is a sustained grade that stresses cooling systems and transmissions. The parking structures at Westfield UTC and on the UCSD campus have height restrictions that require wheel-lift rather than flatbed access. The high-rise residential buildings have secured garages that require tenant coordination.
